The existing hydraulic winder system is plus-thirty years old and the valves are now obsolete. The braking system at present is such that dynamic braking is achieved using the hydraulic circuit prior to mechanical brakes being applied, in instances of issue or failure with the hydraulic system this can leave the cage temporarily under the action of gravity while the mechanical brakes are applied. Additionally the electrical system is similarly old and potentially obsolete, as a result the National Coal Mining Museum for England would welcome interest from providers able to upgrade and update the electrical system, safety panels and electrical interfaces in addition to the winder proper.
