## Summary

The University of Nottingham is initiating a public procurement contract titled "NETWORKS (GLOBAL WAN)" within the wide area network services industry, taking place at their Nottinghamshire location. The procurement is currently in the Tender stage, with expressions of interest due by 24 January 2017. This contract seeks a Managed Service Provider (MSP) to evolve the University’s WAN services into a cutting-edge Software Defined network, following a structured three-stage plan which begins with foundational upgrades and progresses to a hybrid and ultimately a fully software-defined system. The contract period is set to commence on 1 April 2017 and conclude on 31 March 2020, with the open procurement method facilitating broader participation from interested vendors.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses looking to expand in the managed services and telecommunications sectors. Companies with capabilities in network management, software-defined networking, and virtualised network functions would be particularly well-suited to compete. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, leveraging their flexibility and innovative solutions to meet the University’s evolving requirements. Engaging with this tender could result in a significant service provision partnership that enhances the University’s telecommunications infrastructure, benefiting both the institution and the selected vendor.

## Notice

The International Campus Network (ICN) is the University's communications backbone connecting the international campuses. The University of Nottingham are seeking a Managed Service Provider (MSP) partner that has the ability to support, enable and mentor the University's service delivery capabilities. The objective of this contract is to transform the WAN service from the static provision of bandwidth between campuses to a service that evolves from its current state to a 'state of the art' SD (Software Defined) WAN with NFV (Network Function Virtualisation). In collaboration with the incumbent service provider the University has developed a Global WAN Strategy. The strategy suggests a 3 Stage approach: 1. Stage 1 - Foundation 2. Stage 2 - Hybrid WAN 3. Stage 3 - SD WAN and NFV The pace at which the University evolves through these stages will be determined by its ability to execute a series of discrete tasks and work packages that prepare it for each stage and by the ability of the Managed Service Provider to evolve the services in lock step with the University.
