## Summary

The procurement process involves the purchase of a High Resolution Field Emission Gun Scanning Electron Microscope by the University of Sheffield. This initiative is part of the Sheffield Royce Institute project, with a value of £418,992, aimed at advancing the UK's research and innovation in materials science. The contract period runs from 21 December 2018 to 31 January 2019, and the procurement method employed is a mini competition from a framework. The procurement stage for this contract has been marked as complete, and the tender concluded on 1 October 2018, with the award notice published on 4 January 2019.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the advanced materials and laboratory equipment sectors, particularly those specialising in high-resolution imaging technologies. Suppliers capable of providing sophisticated scientific instruments, such as microscopes, would be well-suited for competition in this market. As the procurement is linked to the cutting-edge facilities of the Royce Institute, companies that focus on innovative technologies in materials processing and analysis stand to benefit from such public contracts.

## Notice

The Sheffield Royce Institute is a~PS34M project based in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Sheffield is part of the national Henry Royce Institute (with the main Hub in Manchester) which aims to grow the UK world-leading research and innovation base in advanced materials science, fundamental to all industrial sectors and the national economy. The Sheffield Royce Institute focuses on Advanced Materials Processing and will be delivered through two centres - the Royce Discovery Centre (RDC) and the Royce Translational Centre (RTC). These state of the art facilities will allow materials discovery, materials manufacturing and prototype production and will act as an open access centre of excellence for the UK. We seek to purchase a state of the art, computer-controlled user friendly, Field Emission Gun Scanning Electron Microscope. The instrument will be used for the high resolution imaging of a wide range of materials, but with a particular focus on metals. The FEGSEM should have EDS and EBSD capability and will be used for high-resolution studies of deformed metal structures.
