## Summary

The procurement process titled "Artificial Intelligence and Automation in Creating Recorded Flood Extents" was conducted by the Defra Network eTendering Portal, focusing on the technical support services industry. The contract, valued at £24,938.52, is located in the United Kingdom. This tender fell under the award stage, with the contract period starting on 1st March 2022 and concluding on 31st March 2022. The procurement was carried out through a selective method, specifically as a call-off from a framework agreement, with the tender period having ended on 25th February 2022.

This opportunity is ideal for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that specialise in innovative technological solutions, particularly those with expertise in artificial intelligence and automation. Companies that can streamline processes related to flood mapping and data analysis would be well-suited to compete for similar future contracts. This engagement not only allows businesses to showcase their expertise but also contributes to enhancing public services in flood risk management, ultimately leading to growth and further opportunities in the sector.

## Notice

As part of Ambition 5 of the FCRM Mapping & Modelling plan, the Environment Agency would like to try and automate as many manual processes involving mapping and modelling data and information as possible. One of the potential processes identified as having the potential for automation is the creation of recorded flood outlines from historic photographs. The primary outcome of this commission is to complete an initial discovery piece of work, including a potential proof of concept, to investigate whether Artificial Intelligence and automation can be used to generate a 'first draft' recorded flood outline using a range of historic flood photographs. This work will potentially help save a significant amount of staff time in creating recorded flood extents after a flood event. This is currently quite a manually intensive process and so any improvements we can offer will be welcomed by area operations teams. The Consultant will focus on the use of both Oblique and ground level photographs in testing different methods of AI to create these extents.
