On 14 December 2017 in the Social Mobility Action Plan and in a separate announcement on 6 January 2018 we further announced a national network of 35 English Hubs ("Hubs") and a Centre of Excellence for Literacy Teaching (the Centre). These announcements confirmed funding of up to PS26.3 million in the financial years 2018-19 and 2019-20 to establish and run the Centre of Excellence for Literacy Teaching and the national network of 35 English Hubs which are being appointed through a separate process. As part of the funding comes from the Northern Powerhouse, 14 of the hubs will be in that region, which covers the former government office regions of North East, North West, and Yorkshire and Humber.
