## Summary

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is currently seeking tenders for the project titled "STEP concept development for separation of Isotopes for Fusion Materials." This procurement falls under the basic metals industry category and is located within the United Kingdom. The procurement stage is described as open, with the tender period concluding on 22 December 2021. Successful proposals are expected to address advanced materials development technologies relevant to isotope separation, and the contract period is slated to begin on 17 January 2022 and end on 15 April 2022.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in advanced materials, engineering design, and chemical processes, particularly those with expertise in electromagnetic techniques, laser-based ionisation, and isotope separation methodologies. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to apply, as the project aims to partner with innovative companies capable of developing novel, integrated solutions. Competing firms should possess capabilities in ion/atomic beam production or ion extraction and collection, positioning them well to contribute effectively to this pioneering initiative.

## Notice

The STEP Programme and wider UKAEA programmes related to advanced materials development are seeking to explore technology options to provide scalable solutions for isotope separation in metals. Possible solutions include (but are not limited to) electromagnetic techniques to separate ionized materials, selective laser-based ionization, distillation methods involving liquid phases, gas-based separation via centrifuges, and chemical processes based on ion exchange, electrolysis, or electrolytic methods. UKAEA would like to partner with the industry to explore different technologies and their possibilities. At this stage, this (interaction) could be with companies with key expertise in specific elements of the technology solutions, for example in the production of ion/atomic beams, or with knowledge of ion collection and extraction. Alternatively, we would welcome bids from suppliers with capabilities to develop novel integrated solutions, bringing together various technologies to develop a full isotope separation methodology.
