## Summary

The University of Sheffield is conducting a procurement process for the "Weather Stations (Urban Flows project)" in Sheffield, Yorkshire and the Humber. This project aims to establish a network of weather stations that will support urban climate research over an initial period of five years. The contract, valued at £120,000, is at the award stage, with the contract period starting from 27 August 2018 and concluding on 31 March 2019. The procurement method used is an open procedure, and the tender documentation was published on 6 July 2018, with submissions required by 3 August 2018.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in the supply and installation of meteorological instruments and related services. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly those with expertise in developing self-contained weather monitoring systems or radar-based precipitation measurement solutions, are well-positioned to compete for this contract. Given that the locations for installation will primarily be schools in Sheffield, companies that can demonstrate experience in similar public sector projects may also have a competitive advantage.

## Notice

The University of Sheffield Urban Flows Observatory, led by the Departments of Civil and Structural and Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, is looking to create a network of weather stations around the city of Sheffield. These will operate for an initial period of 5 years. The purpose is to provide measurements to support data gathered from a network of air quality sensors as well as information regarding solar irradiance and inform research regarding the Urban Heat Island effect. These sensors will be deployed concurrently but mainly at locations different to the weather stations. The proposed unit for the meteorological observations should be self-contained and with limited maintenance requirements, using radar-based precipitation measurement. The locations for the stations will be primarily schools within the area of Sheffield city and in most cases mains power and network connectivity (Ethernet wired or wireless) will be available. Additional information: All tender documentation can be obtained via the In-tend site, which bidders should also use to submit queries & tender returns.
