The full project will bring new land into community use and support habitats. It will improve existing and create new green space for people and wildlife and includes planting of native species and the creation of a wetland area to increase biodiversity. Community allotments, a wild food area and new trails are also being created. The council is looking to implement a long term plan for ecological enhancement of areas within the Northallerton Sports Village site and its surrounding areas. A report has been commissioned by Hambleton District Council to review any previous studies of the site, carry out additional surveys and identify areas of significant biodiversity enhancement opportunities that could be implemented over a 10-15 year period. For the year to 31st March 2023, Hambleton District Council has set aside a budget of GBP55,000 exc. vat for the first step in the implementation process.
