## Summary

The Crown Commercial Service is currently undertaking a selective tender process for the "Radio Network Infrastructure Replacement" project, which falls within the telecommunications industry. The procurement aims to replace the existing radio network that supports VHF & MF radio transmissions for HM Coastguard, facilitating vital communication at sea. The submission deadline for suppliers is 11:00 on 27th July 2018, with the contract anticipated to start on 1st April 2019 and continue until 1st April 2029. The estimated value of the contract is £130,000,000, covering services that are critical for maritime safety across the UK's extensive coastline.

This tender presents significant business opportunities, particularly for suppliers with expertise in telecommunications infrastructure and services. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to apply, given the project's scope and the inclusive nature of the tendering process. Companies involved in network construction, maintenance, or technology solutions tailored for emergency services will find this procurement particularly relevant to their capabilities, allowing them to expand their reach and contribute to the enhancement of national maritime operations.

## Notice

HM Coastguard are required to monitor VHF & MF Radio transmissions from vessels at sea and provide assistance in case of emergency to prevent loss of life within the UK's jurisdiction. In order to do this, the current network consists of 155 Remote Radio sites (RRS), situated around 11,000 miles of UK coastline. This network facilitates all communication transmissions to and from vessels at sea and to the HM Coastguard Watch Officers based at our 10 Coastguard Operation Centres around the UK and the National Maritime Operations Centre in Fareham via two Data Centres. The existing network that links these remote radio sites to the HMCG Operations Centres needs to be replaced; the reason is that the analogue Kilostream product that underpins the existing network is being withdrawn from the market in March 2020 by BT in line with a wider OFCOM deregulation of low bandwidth analogue point-to-point product types across the telecommunications industry.
