## Summary

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has awarded a contract to IN4 Group for a project titled "AI Apprenticeship" aimed at supporting at-risk youth entering the technology sector. This procurement, classified under "Research and development services and related consultancy services" (CPV code 73000000), was conducted using a selective procurement method through a call-off from a dynamic purchasing system. The project is set to commence on 15th June 2026 and conclude on 15th June 2027, with a focus on the United Kingdom and other regions, including British Overseas Territories and Europe. DSIT has allocated funding of £90,000 for this endeavour, which involves engaging up to 50 students identified by the Risk of NEET Indicator (RONI) before the end of the academic year and providing a four-week summer programme on workplace communication and basic AI skills.

This tender presents considerable opportunities for businesses specialising in education, training, and apprenticeship programme delivery, particularly those with a focus on frontier technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. Companies that are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or that operate as voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs) are particularly well-suited to participate, given the project’s alignment with targeted support for disadvantaged youth and the emphasis on completing AI apprenticeships. The engagement with young people at risk of becoming NEET into skill-building and workforce integration can facilitate business growth in delivering innovative educational services whilst addressing social equity objectives.

## Notice

A pilot to support a minimum of 30 young people at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training) into AI apprenticeships from September 2026. Offers a direct route for disadvantaged young people into employment in frontier technology. The pilot would target young people identified by schools through the Risk of NEET Indicator (RONI) and support them into AI apprenticeships. Under the proposal, up to 50 selected students would be engaged and enrolled before end of the academic year and thereafter would undertake a four-week summer programme focused on essential workplace communication and basic AI skills before being matched to participating employers. We expect 50% of those enrolled to convert into apprenticeship starts. We would also expect a strong completion rate for the apprenticeship, which typically lasts one year. DSIT is funding the four-week summer programme at a cost of PS90k. To secure the apprenticeship places already identified, funding would need to be confirmed by the end of June 2026.
