## Summary

The purchasing entity for this tender is the Defra Network eTendering Portal, which has issued the request for quotes (RFQ) for a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Thermal Cycler, designated as CEFAS21-136. This procurement is categorised under laboratory, optical and precision equipment, with a total value of £16,000. The tender is currently in the Active stage and is open for submissions until 13 January 2022. The equipment delivery must reach Cefas in Lowestoft, England, during the week commencing 21 March 2022, to ensure payment by the end of the financial year. The procurement method adopted is an open procedure, suitable for any potential supplier meeting the specifications outlined in the RFQ.

This tender presents a valuable opportunity for businesses specialising in laboratory equipment, particularly those focused on manufacturing or supplying PCR machinery. Companies that possess the capability to deliver a compact thermal cycling machine that meets detailed technical specifications would be particularly competitive. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, as this tender is small enough to offer realistic chances of success for such businesses. The procurement may also benefit suppliers able to provide robust logistical support for timely delivery and installation.

## Notice

Cefas require a compact thermal cycling machine to conduct conventional/standard Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCRs) (i.e not quantitative qPCR) on DNA from tissue or environmental samples, to amplify DNA using species-specific primers. Due to the need for high sample throughput on some projects, and space considerations in the lab, a machine with four independently controlled blocks is required. Requirement: A PCR thermal cycler with four independently controlled blocks, to the following specifications: - Capacity for simultaneously running up to three 96-well plates - Capacity for simultaneously running up to three sets of 96 x 0.2 mL tubes - Each block is independently programmable, with independent heated lids - A minimum temperature range of 200 to 600 C. - Compact in size - no larger than length x width 80 x 80 cm. - Memory for storing 50+ programmes Delivery and Installation Requirements: It is important to Cefas that delivery is made before or during WC 21st March 2022 to ensure payment by end of FY. If delivery cannot be accommodated in this timeframe, Cefas reserve the right to withdraw from the exercise or request additional documentation to be provided as evidence of ownership. The equipment is required to be delivered/installed to Cefas Lowestoft NR33 0HT. All pricing provided must be inclusive of delivery 'INCOTERM DDP' if item is being imported (please advise).
