## Summary

RSPB Scotland has completed a public procurement process titled "Peatland Restoration - Abernethy" aimed at restoring peatland ecosystems in the UK, specifically across a 168-hectare site in the UKM61 region. The procurement was initiated under an open procedure and falls within the works category, classified under Earthmoving work (CPV code: 45112500). The contract, valued at £175,543, was awarded on 26 August 2020 and has been marked as active with MNV Consulting Ltd as the successful supplier. This tender process was in response to significant peat degradation challenges, and all bidding and procurement activities have now concluded.

This opportunity particularly suits businesses specialising in environmental restoration, earthmoving services, and ecological consultancy, as it demands expertise in peatland management and restoration. Companies engaged in extensive excavation work and those capable of offering specific restoration techniques would find this project aligns closely with their capabilities. Moreover, firms with experience in stabilising vulnerable ecosystems are more likely to thrive in future tenders focusing on environmental protection and sustainability initiatives within the industry.

## Notice

Tender for services to stabilise the existing peatland communities to prevent further erosion and degradation and re-vegetate bare peat across the 168 hectare site.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The primary objective in this phase of the An Lurg project is to stabilise the existing peatland communities to prevent further erosion and degradation and re-vegetate bare peat across the 168 hectare site. In addition, the restoration aims to reduce Carbon emissions, improve water quality, raise the water table, reduce sedimentation, and enhance biodiversity. The site comprises extensive areas of peat hags, erosion gullies, and patches of bare peat, including some small peat pans. There are hotspots of micro-erosion across areas of the site linked to historic high herbivore pressure. There is a wide mix of peat hags from under 0.5m to over 2m with the majority falling within 0.7-1.5m in height. Parts of the site are in an actively eroding condition and is located within a landscape of degraded peat. The project requires a minimum of four excavators and will require helicopter transportation of materials.
