## Summary

The Department for the Economy, located in Belfast, is currently inviting tenders for the "Skills for Life and Work Programme", aiming to enhance education and training services for young people aged 16-17. This procurement process is classified under the services category, specifically focusing on education and training, with a contract value of £59.9 million. The tender is in the active stage and is undertaken via an open procurement method. The deadline for submission of tenders is set for 18 February 2021, with the contract anticipated to commence in August 2021 and lasting for one year, alongside options for potential extensions.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for training organisations, particularly those experienced in vocational training and youth education services. Businesses that specialise in providing professional and technical skills training for young people, especially those targeting individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, would be well-suited to compete. Engaging in this contract could help expand a company's reach within the education sector and foster positive outcomes for young learners, thereby contributing to community development and workforce readiness.

## Notice

Skills for Life and Work professional and technical skills training provision will be offered to young people aged 16-17 (under 22 years for those with a disability and under 24 years for those from an in-care background) who normally will not possess a full level 1 qualification (defined as 4 GCSEs at grades D-G) and who have not yet gained full-time employment. Existing Training for Success contracts will expire on 31 July 2021 and an interim programme option (Skills for Life and Work) is therefore required to ensure continuity of training provision and to meet ongoing need of Entry Level/Level 1 skills provision amongst this cohort of young people. The overarching aim of this project is to ensure that a network of quality providers eligible to deliver Skills for Life and Work is in place from September 2021. It is anticipated that the Programme will be delivered by a mix of training organisations drawn from the non-statutory sector and FE statutory sector.
