## Summary

The procurement process involved Public Health England (PHE) awarding a contract for the provision of RealStar® PCR kits, classified under diagnostic kits, crucial for supporting COVID-19 testing efforts. This urgent procurement was initiated due to the COVID-19 pandemic and utilised a limited procurement method, specifically the negotiated procedure without prior publication, due to the extreme urgency outlined in regulation 32(2)(c). The contract, valued at £2,700,000, was signed on 4th December 2020, and delivered across multiple PHE locations within the UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those within the healthcare and diagnostic sectors, to engage in public procurement. Companies specialising in the production and supply of medical goods, especially SMEs, are well-suited to compete. The nature of the contract allows for potential extensions based on ongoing needs, thus providing an avenue for sustained collaboration with PHE as they address public health emergencies.
