## Summary

The Cambridge City Council is initiating a tender for the "Cambridge City Centre Recovery Project," aimed at procuring design and installation services for innovative outdoor street furniture and creative external lighting within Cambridge’s historic core. This project, classified under furniture design services, is valued at £250,000 and is designed to enhance the city’s economy post-coronavirus pandemic restrictions. The procurement process is currently in the planning stage, with the implementation scheduled for June 2021. Interested parties can submit their expressions of interest electronically via the designated e-tendering portal, with a future notice date set for 17th March 2021 for further details.

This tender represents an excellent opportunity for businesses in the design and installation sectors, particularly those specialising in urban furniture, lighting solutions, and innovative city enhancements. Firms that have experience in delivering projects that bolster city areas and contribute to making urban spaces more attractive to visitors would be well-suited to compete. The project outlines the necessity for integrated and eco-friendly solutions, encouraging bidders to demonstrate their capabilities in creating sustainable, aesthetically pleasing urban environments that align with the values of climate consciousness and community engagement.

Cambridge City Council are looking to procure design and installation package for inventive outdoor street furniture and creative external lighting within Cambridge's historic core, which would enhance the day and night-time economy and attract visitors back to the city after the lifting of coronavirus pandemic restrictions. The Work Package forms a substantial part of several initiatives which are being made possible by a Local Growth Fund grant to support the recovery of Cambridge city centre from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, due for implementation in June 2021. Vision (and values): The city is recognised as a "great place to live, learn and work" which is at the forefront of policies which care for the planet and promote "economic dynamism and prosperity combined with social justice and equality." It takes seriously its commitment to tackle the local and global threat of climate change, both internally and in partnership with local organisations and residents and to minimise its environmental impact by cutting carbon, waste, and pollution. To attract footfall back to Cambridge's iconic historic centre, its retail, hospitality and cultural sectors, street design improvements are being sought with a cohesive, bespoke theme which should add to and strengthen upon these values, its unique architectural heritage, and reputation for innovation as a large cluster of high-tech businesses. It is intended whole life-cycle approaches will act as reference points for the design process. Provision should be allowed for the manufacturing of products that have an 'infinite life' through refurbishment, which can be reused and re-sited elsewhere in the city - for example, as with community parklets on residential streets. The deliverables need to be integrated and interoperable between all key elements of the scheme. Combined bids will be considered. Expressions of interest are sought from organisations who have delivered innovative projects for enhancement of city areas designed to make Cambridge a destination of choice.
