## Summary

Cardiff Council, acting on behalf of the Cardiff Capital Region, has successfully completed a procurement process for the installation, operation, and maintenance of electric vehicle charging points. This project, identified as "The Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Electrical Vehicle Charging Points", falls under the construction work industry category, with an emphasis on enhancing sustainable transport options in South East Wales. The procurement began with a tender invitation and was awarded on 12 January 2021, with a total estimated value between £1,085,224 and £1,508,984 for the project, which includes the supply and ongoing maintenance of 34 chargepoints across 31 locations. The contractor was expected to have all chargepoints operational by 31 March 2021, following an award procedure that involved prioritised publication of a call for competition.

This procurement can present lucrative opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in electrical machinery, installation, and maintenance services. Suppliers focusing on electric vehicle infrastructure, such as charging points, will find this market expanding as the emphasis on ultra-low emission vehicles grows. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with experience in similar contracts may have a competitive advantage, especially given that six out of seven bids received were from SMEs. This tender not only supports local contractors but also invites innovative solutions in the area of sustainable transport, making it an attractive area for businesses looking to expand their footprint in environmentally-friendly technologies.
