## Summary

The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is extending its existing contract with the Alzheimers Society for the Carers Support Service aimed at individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and young onset dementia. This decision, initiated on 29 March 2021, is in light of the COVID-19 pandemic which disrupted original plans for a tender process; the current contract is due to expire on 31 March 2021. The procurement method used is a limited procedure, allowing for the award without prior publication of a call for competition, with an active contract value of £107,840.

This extension presents a valuable opportunity for businesses involved in health and community service sectors, especially those providing support services to vulnerable groups. Companies capable of offering tailored care solutions in collaboration with health authorities will find this tender relevant. The strategic focus on service continuity during recovery from the pandemic highlights the necessity for agile and responsive service providers, thus allowing smaller enterprises and community organisations to compete effectively in this sector.

## Notice

The Mental Health Clinical Board has a requirement to extend the existing contract for the Carers Support Service for People with Alzheimer's Disease and Young Onset Dementia. The Contract expiry is due on 31st March 2021 in line with the original contract award against Tender 16/2212. As a result of the COVID 19 pandemic, the Mental Health Clinical Board have had to realign priorities and respond to the situation and therefore have not had the time that was originally planned to work on the renewal Tender and therefore seek an annual extension.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The aim of the service is to improve the quality of life of people affected by Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The Carers Support Service and Young Onset Dementia Pathway should be tailored to meet the needs of the individual, working alongside the NHS and local community services, and should be available to all Service Users and Carers.

### Procurement Information

The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board wish to extend the existing contract with The Alzheimers Society for a 12 month period. The Health Board were not in a position to spend the time originally planned to re-tender the requirements due to the unexpected COVID 19 Pandemic and priorities within the Clinical Board having to change to respond appropriately to the situation. Furthermore by extending the 3rd Sector Contracts for an additional year will help to enable them to recover from Covid which in turn will help in re-stabilising their organisations. Work is now underway to prepare the necessary specification documents to allow a full Tender exercise to renew these contracts in line with this VEAT expiry. The extension will provide seamless service continuation.
