## Summary

The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has recently completed the procurement process titled "Professional development for mentors and coaches of practitioners in Further Education and Training". This contract falls under the education and training services category and is focused in England. The procurement method used was an open procedure and this process is fully compliant with the relevant EU regulations. The awards were made on 10th November 2020, with three contracts being signed, valued at £676,484, aimed at improving mentoring training within the Further Education and Training sector.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the education and training sector, particularly those specialising in mentoring, coaching, and professional development services. Companies that can effectively design and deliver high-quality mentoring programmes, including desk-based research and management of financial support for mentoring, would be particularly well-positioned to compete. The inclusion of both large organisations and SMEs in the bidding process reflects a broad market opportunity, particularly for firms that can demonstrate capability in fostering effective and evidence-informed mentoring practices.

## Notice

The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) awarded three contracts for the professional development for mentors and coaches of teachers and trainers in the Further Education and Training sector. Research indicates that mentoring is "perhaps the most effective, form of supporting the professional development of beginning teachers" (Hobson et al, 2004, p.209) yet, there is further evidence to suggest that it is more likely to be beneficial for beginning teachers when mentors have undertaken a programme of mentoring preparation or education (Hobson, 2016). The ETF champion an approach to mentoring and coaching of teachers in the Further Education and Training sector which is developmental and nurturing in nature; which is rooted in collaboration and support; and which is adaptable to the individual needs of the mentee/coachee. The award of these contracts has enabled the development of a high quality mentoring training in the sector to support teachers - including those in the important early years of their careers - to develop and progress. The underlying aim of this support is to improve the retention of new teachers entering the Further Education and Training sector.
