## Summary

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is seeking to implement a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to enhance the efficiency of its operations across its various facilities located in Teddington, UK. This procurement process is currently in the Tender stage, having begun on 23 March 2021, with a submission deadline set for 20 April 2021. The project falls under the IT services sector, specifically classified as consulting and software development. The procurement is conducted through an open procedure, inviting all interested parties to submit their bids for this essential service aimed at streamlining laboratory operations.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, especially those specialising in IT services, software development, and system integration. Companies with experience in implementing laboratory information management systems, particularly in scientific or engineering contexts, would be well-suited to compete for this contract. The selected supplier will not only contribute to modernising NPL’s operations but will also gain visibility and credibility by partnering with a renowned public body in the UK, potentially opening further avenues for collaboration and business growth in the scientific community.

## Notice

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is comprised of over fifty laboratories, representing approximately fifteen major science areas, varying from Chemical and Biological Sciences to Medical, Nuclear, Thermal and Quantum technologies. Due to a previous lack of strategic investment, the laboratories have over the last twenty years or so operated autonomously, with little commonality between processes and systems implemented. With the aim of leveraging digital technologies to facilitate efficiencies in laboratory operations and compliance, and knowledge-sharing to support our strategic goal of creating impact from science and engineering, NPL intends to implement a common Laboratory Information Management solution and processes across the organisation. Initially, the selected application will be implemented in a pilot project in our newly opened Mechanical Testing facility, within the Advanced Engineering Materials (AEM) group.
