## Summary

The University of Edinburgh has conducted a public procurement process for a unique laboratory equipment system known as the Beacon Optofluidic System, classified under laboratory, optical and precision equipment. This procurement was initiated under limited procedure due to the absence of competition for technical reasons, and the contract has been awarded to Berkeley Lights. The contract is valued at £1,920,000 and was signed on 4th February 2021, with the award status marked as active. The primary delivery location for this contract is the Edinburgh Genome Foundry, situated in the UKM75 region.

This procurement presents an excellent opportunity for businesses involved in the supply of specialised laboratory and technological equipment, particularly those that can innovate or provide unique solutions in the life sciences or biotechnology sectors. Given the specific nature of the items required, companies focusing on high-end research tools, automation systems, or advanced application software are well-suited to compete in similar future tenders. The successful introduction of this one-of-a-kind system illustrates the growing demand for advanced technology in research settings, signalling potential growth avenues for businesses in this industry.

## Notice

The Berkeley Lights Platform is a fully integrated, end-to-end solution, comprised of unique consumables, including OptoSelect chips and reagent kits, advanced automation systems and advanced application and workflow software. The Berkeley Lights Platform is the only technology which allows deterministic isolation, culturing, functional characterization, and export of live single cells on a microfluidic chip. The system is compatible with both mammalian and non-mammalian cells. This is a one-of-a-kind system.
