## Summary

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is initiating a tender titled "Support for: Reduced Transport Model Development," with a focus on research services within the fusion research industry. This procurement falls under the planning stage and is valued at £200,000. The tender process is aimed at support for developing advanced reduced physics-based transport models to enhance predictions of high beta burning plasmas dominated by electromagnetic turbulence. The planned future notice for this contract is set for 25th October 2021. The delivery address for submissions is based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, within the UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in research and development consultancy services and those with expertise in advanced simulation tools relevant to plasma physics. Companies with capabilities in designing and executing innovative research methodologies would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. Engaging with this procurement can aid businesses in expanding their service offerings within the nuclear and fusion research sectors, paving the way for potential partnerships with a leading public authority.

## Notice

Turbulent core transport in the relevant plasma conditions for STEP (a high beta burning ST) is likely to be dominated by electromagnetic turbulence: by micro-tearing modes (MTM) and kinetic ballooning modes (KBM). This is very different from the character of turbulence found in low b conventional aspect ratio tokamaks. The most advanced reduced core transport models available for integrated scenario modelling, have been constructed or tuned to model the transport arising from electrostatic turbulence. UKAEA are looking for support in the development & exploitation of reduced transport models for: Development of state-of-the-art reduced physics-based transport models, to improve the credibility of transport predictions for high beta burning plasmas that are likely to be dominated by transport from electromagnetic turbulence & MTMs. Running of advanced scenario simulation tools that incorporate these models for scenario predictions supporting STEP, and support &training of such tools.
