Piccadilly is one of the most significant central Manchester locations and has an important history. However, Piccadilly was last redeveloped around 2000 during which time the sunken gardens, lawn and large areas of flower beds were removed to make way for the construction of a pavilion and free-standing wall (designed by Japanese Architect Tadao Ando) and installation of a new water feature and landscaping. The area has been added to incrementally over time and has had to accommodate elements of additional transport infrastructure. Piccadilly Gardens will provide an example of the very best in Manchester public realm to showcase and exemplify the city's growing international status. It is one of the most significant central Manchester locations and has an important history. An initial briefing statement has been published on the Council's business portal and information about how access the portal are provided in section V1.3 additional information. ### Lot Information Lot 1 Manchester City Council Capital Programmes Department are leading and administering a three-stage competition for the Piccadilly Design Competition. This will result in the selection of a winning team and design, who will be appointed to develop their design and to deliver the project. The launch of the Expression of Interest is planned for Autumn 2021 with the conclusion of the Design Competition anticipated as Spring Summer / 2023.
