## Summary

First Transpennine Express Limited is advancing the procurement process for the fitment of European Train Control Systems (ETCS) to its existing fleet, specifically targeting Class 185 trains. This tender, classified under the railway transport services industry, is currently in the Award stage, with the contract signed on 6th August 2021. The procurement method employed is a limited award procedure, allowing for the engagement of Siemens Mobility due to their exclusive rights pertaining to software integration and maintenance services essential for compatibility with existing operations.

This procurement opportunity presents significant growth potential for businesses specialising in railway technology and maintenance services, particularly those with experience in ETCS equipment and installations. Companies that can offer integrated solutions, technical support, or maintenance services tailored to rolling stock operations would be well-positioned to compete in this sector. The exclusive nature of the award suggests a focus on maintaining operational continuity, creating an avenue for strategic partnerships and collaborations that leverage existing expertise within the rail transport domain.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

In preparation for any infrastructure improvements along the North Transpennine Route that may including signalling upgrades with ETCS, any rolling stock that operates on this route will need to be fitted with corresponding compatible on-board ETCS equipment, First Transpennine Express Limited (TPE) intends to award a contract to Siemens Mobility for the design, supply and fitment of ETCS equipment and its associated materials, maintenance and technical service to its Class 185 trains.

### Procurement Information

(e) in the case of supply contracts for additional deliveries by the original supplier which are intended whether as a partial replacement of supplies or installations or as the extension of supplies or installations, where a change of supplier would oblige the utility to acquire supplies having different technical characteristics which would result in incompatibility or disproportionate technical difficulties in operation and maintenance; The supplier, who currently provides a full turnkey maintenance and technical support service for these trains within their own maintenance depots retain the intellectual property for any software integration to the train's management system and to eliminate all risks associated with the procurement of equipment that would need to be fully integrated to the existing train's management system, TPE intend to award a sole supplier with Siemens Mobility for the Class 185 trains.
