## Summary

Sellafield Ltd has completed the award process for the "SL-HAWTT Programme Stage 1 - Tranche 2", focusing on research and development services within the nuclear decommissioning industry. The contracts were awarded on 29 July 2021 to Atkins Limited and Veolia Nuclear Solutions (UK) Limited, both large suppliers with exclusive rights to proprietary thermal treatment technologies that support the Highly Active Waste Thermal Treatment Programme (HAWATT). The procurement was conducted through a limited procedure without prior publication of a call for competition, reflecting the specialised nature of the required services. This stage is now complete, having successfully met the established baseline requirements for pilot facilities.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the research and development sector, particularly those with expertise in nuclear technology and waste management solutions. Companies capable of offering innovative thermal treatment technologies or consultancy services relevant to the HAWATT Programme may find avenues for collaboration or future contracts, especially as Sellafield Ltd may engage these suppliers further based on the successful outcomes of this stage. As the project progresses, there may be additional procurement opportunities aimed at further phases of the programme, creating a compelling environment for growth.

## Notice

The purpose of the Stage 1 contract awards is to enable Sellafield Ltd to determine whether the proprietary technology solutions of the suppliers meet baseline requirements for pilot facilities which will be delivered by the HAWATT Programme. Sellafield Ltd has elected to award contracts to both suppliers to ensure that there is no unnecessary narrowing of parameters. Should Sellafield Ltd be satisfied that the baseline requirements are met then Sellafield Ltd may subsequently award a supplies contract , in accordance with Regulations 32(5)(a) of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015.
