## Summary

The procurement process conducted by UK Research & Innovation involves the contract for the manufacture of the C100 sensor, falling under the goods category in the sensors industry. This tender was initiated on September 13, 2021, with an active contract valuing £244,000 that was signed on August 26, 2021. The manufacturing will take place in Oxfordshire, UK, under a limited procurement method as the supplier holds exclusive intellectual property rights related to this sensor's production. The procurement stage is currently at the award stage, denoting that the contract has been successfully awarded to the supplier, ETESIAN SEMICONDUCTOR LTD.

This tender provides an exceptional opportunity for businesses specialising in advanced semiconductor technology and related fields to engage in the public sector. Suppliers with expertise in high-performance sensor manufacturing and those who can meet specialised requirements in cryo electron microscopy would be particularly well-suited to compete. The unique nature of the manufacturing process and the proprietary rights associated with the C100 sensor mean that capable suppliers can leverage this opportunity for business growth and long-term partnerships within the UK's research and innovation sector.

## Notice

C100 is a CMOS sensor designed by STFC, in collaboration with Rosalind Franklin Institute (RFI) and the Laboratory of molecular biology (LMB) of the Medical Research Council (MRC) The purpose is to deliver a wafer scales sensor optimised for cryo electron microscopy at 100keV

### Procurement Information

The process to fabricate such pixel represents a piece of IP which is the property of Tower Semiconductor. This justifies an SSA under Section 32 the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 since Tower Semiconductor own the IP of the manufacturing process, and no one else can supply a pixel IP of this performance which is compatible with existing STFC IP that can only be manufactured in the Tower Semiconductor process.
