## Summary

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), part of the UK Ministry of Defence, has recently awarded a contract to Atlantas Marine Limited for approximately £1 million. The project, titled "Project A Experimentation Defender," involves the procurement of two Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), specifically designed for deep water search research and a proof of concept demonstration. The procurement process was conducted through a limited negotiation procedure without prior publication, with the contract awarded on 15 September 2021. This initiative falls under the goods category, specifically focusing on unmanned underwater vehicles, with delivery addresses located within the UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the marine technology sector, particularly those specialising in unmanned underwater systems. Companies that can provide innovative ROV solutions or related technological advancements may benefit from future procurement opportunities within the defence sector, especially given the strategic importance of advanced research capabilities in maritime environments. With the award being granted to an exclusive supplier, new entrants that can meet the technical requirements specified by the Royal Navy and DSTL could find a niche in this evolving market.
