Cumbria County Council is seeking suppliers for the "Underwater Bridge Inspections Term Contract," aimed at providing engineering and inspection services across Cumbria. The procurement process is currently in the Award stage following successful completion of the Tender phase, with a total estimated contract value of £360,000. Suppliers interested in this contract will need to adhere to diversity and legislative requirements and are encouraged to express their interest via the portal www.the-chest.org.uk by the submission deadline of 12th November 2021. The contract entails an annual programme of inspections aligned with the council's capital works, ensuring the structural integrity and safety of bridges.

This contract presents substantial opportunities for engineering firms, particularly those specialising in inspection and maintenance services. Businesses that can demonstrate expertise in underwater exploration and structural assessments will be well-positioned to compete, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises that meet the council's diversity criteria. Engaging in this project not only allows companies to secure a valuable long-term contract but also contributes to community safety and infrastructure integrity across the region.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

As part of its capital works programme the Council carries out inspections and reactive maintenance and repairs to its structures where defects occur or are identified that if left unattended could result in structural collapse and risk to the public. Following a programme of Level 2 Scour Assessments across the County on the higher priority routes, a number of bridges have been identified with a Scour Risk Rating of either 1 or 2 (highest or second highest theoretical risk rating). These require regular inspections for scour damage either until foundation depths and founding material have been proven or until scour protection measures have been provided. In addition, some other bridges have been included at the specific request of the Bridge Inspection Team and these require inspections at periodic intervals generally less frequent than annual inspections. Additional information: "This Term Contract Agreement for underwater bridge inspections is for use by the following Contracting Authorities that exist on 1st December 2021 and any successor council(s) as defined in The Local Government (Structural Changes) (Transfer of Functions, Property, Rights and Liabilities) Regulations 2008 to the Contracting Authorities: 1. Cumbria County Council"

Renewal: The Council proposes to enter into the Contract for a maximum period of 6 years (4 year initial term with two possible extensions of up to 1 year each) with the successful tenderer (Service Provider).
