## Summary

The procurement process involves the University of Edinburgh, which is seeking to acquire a 16-cage multiplexed indirect calorimetry system with isotope detection capacity for research purposes. This procurement falls under the goods category within the industry classification of calorimeters (CPV code: 38418000). The process is currently at the award stage, with a contract value of €478,630 signed on 13 October 2021. The delivery is specified for the Edinburgh BioQuarter campus, and the procurement was conducted through a limited method without prior publication due to the unique technical requirements involved.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in scientific research equipment, particularly those specialising in calorimetry and related instruments. SMEs, particularly those with established collaborations with research institutions or capacity to provide interoperable systems, will find this procurement particularly suitable. Given the emphasis on interoperability with other EU institutions already using similar systems, businesses that can demonstrate alignment with collaborative research outputs and who are prepared to engage in high-quality, technically robust bids will be well-positioned to compete.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

We are procuring a 16 cage multiplexed indirect calorimetry system for mice with temperature and light monitoring and control, to include high sensitivity food and water intake monitoring, body mass measurement, XYZ activity and exercise monitoring.

### Procurement Information

Several other EU institutions who are in direct formal collaboration with the University's Centre for Cardiovascular Science, the Queen's Medical Research Institute and, specifically, the research team acquiring this equipment, are already using the subject system. In the interests of interoperability with these collaborators and complementarity of research outputs, it is imperative that the system we acquire offers complete alignment and site-to-site compatibility and comparability of collected data with those from the collaborating laboratories concerned.
