## Summary

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is currently conducting an open tender process for the design and build of five handheld CE-marked thermal imaging units, titled "RFQ - Thermal Imager evaluation unit design & build." This procurement falls under the medical equipment category, specifically within the CPV classification for medical equipment and related products. The contract period is set to commence on 15 November 2021 and conclude by 31 March 2022. Bidders should submit their proposals electronically via the LUPC Bravo e-tender portal before the deadline on 28 October 2021, and must adhere to specific guidelines regarding usability in clinical environments.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in medical equipment design and manufacturing, particularly those capable of producing handheld devices compliant with the CE marking. Companies with expertise in precision engineering and a strong understanding of clinical applications would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. Given the focus on rapid image capture and user-friendly design for clinical settings, businesses that can demonstrate relevant experience in medical device development, as well as adherence to quality management systems such as ISO 13485, are encouraged to participate in this procurement process.

## Notice

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) requirement is for the design and build of five (5) handheld CE-marked thermal imaging units. NPL is in the process of securing funding from the Government Office of Technology Transfer (GOTT) to further develop its existing, thermal imaging for health knowledge asset. The technology is designed to enable clinicians to scan a patient's foot quickly and rapidly and to assess for areas of thermal concern. The purpose is to have access to units that can be left with users for evaluation purposes to determine how this technology can work with existing processes and patient workflow. The units need to work in a clinical environment, this should be taken into consideration when selecting materials and cleaning protocols.
