## Summary

The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking suppliers for an Ultrasonic Surgical Aspiration System as part of a limited procurement process without prior publication of a call for competition. This tender, classified under the medical equipment and pharmaceuticals category, is currently complete, with the contract awarded on 18 October 2021 for an amount of £111,230. The main item required is the Ultrasonic Surgical Aspiration System, with delivery expected within the UK. This procurement falls under the medical sector and addresses the specific needs of liver surgery, facilitating precise dissection and ligation.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in medical equipment and surgical technologies, particularly those with products that enhance surgical precision and safety. Companies with experience in manufacturing or supplying innovative medical devices could benefit, especially those that offer alternatives to existing solutions or enhancements for the field of liver surgery. Engaging in this market could lead to further contracts, given the crucial nature of the equipment to healthcare providers like Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

### Procurement Information

There is no alternative to the CUSA device. There are alternatives which operate in a different manner (e.g. Aquamantis, Harmonic) however none of these allow the precise dissection and ligation of critical liver structures such as biliary pedicles and hepatic veins. In addition, from my experience very few, if any liver surgeons would contemplate carrying out major liver resection without CUSA. The incidence if bile leak post liver resection with CUSA is low (happy to provide my figures) which significantly reduces post-operative morbidity, hospital stay and expenditure (e.g., ERCP). The use of CUSA ensure the safe use of liver surgery for patient at RMH.
