## Summary

The procurement process involves the Department of Health and Social Care as the purchasing organisation, soliciting additional flu vaccines for the 2021/22 flu season. The contract, classified under goods, specifically pertains to the supply of influenza vaccines, essential for maintaining public health during the ongoing pandemic. The procurement method employed was a limited procedure, allowing for direct awards due to urgent need, with key contracts awarded on 8 October 2021. The procurement process has now completed, with the last update recorded on 18 January 2022.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, particularly those specialising in vaccine production and distribution. Companies that possess the capacity to supply influenza vaccines, especially larger manufacturers like Aventis Pharma, Seqirus UK, and Viatris UK Healthcare, are well-suited to compete for future tenders. Given the heightened demand for vaccines, businesses that can swiftly mobilise resources and ensure compliance with public health regulations are likely to thrive in this environment.

## Notice

This Contract is for a centrally procured, additional supply of Influenza Vaccine to ensure sufficient supply of flu vaccine for the 21/22 flu season

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The Department of Health and Social Care is procuring a stock of flu vaccines over and above that which is needed for business as usual. This is in order to increase the uptake of flu vaccines for the 21/22 flu season while the covid-19 pandemic still persists and protect the population against the combined effect of flu and covid-19.

### Procurement Information

The Authority needed to secure additional flu vaccines to supplement business as usual stocks so that it was in a position of being ready to co-administer the Covid-19 booster and flu vaccine simultaneously as this will result in a greater uptake of the flu vaccine to a wider cohort of the population. However the high global demand for flu vaccines and the limited global stocks of these vaccinations gave rise to an extremely urgent need for the Authority to purchase additional flu vaccines for the 2021/22 flu season to maintain security of supply to immunise the population as required and safeguard public health. It was imperative in the face of high global demand, that the Authority moved quickly to secure supply and as such there was insufficient time to comply with the standard Open Procedure time scales for this procurement. Accordingly, the Authority used the negotiated procedure without prior publication - Regulation 32(2)(c) - Extreme Urgency Route (i.e. direct award) permitted under the Public Contract Regulations 2015 (as amended) to conduct this procurement
