## Summary

The procurement process, initiated by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), involves the awarding of a contract entitled "Micro Focus Cobol Support" within the software support services industry in the United Kingdom. The procurement stage is complete, and the contract was awarded on 30 November 2021, valued at £103,821. This limited procurement was carried out without prior publication of a call for competition, based on the necessity of maintaining critical support for the legacy Micro Focus Cobol system, which is essential for the continuity of the COPFS's Management Information System (PROMIS).

This tender presents significant opportunities for growth, particularly for businesses specialising in software support services or those with expertise in Cobol systems. Companies looking to engage in similar service contracts should consider their capabilities in managing legacy systems and ensuring seamless support during transitional phases in software infrastructure. As COPFS explores the move towards Open Source solutions, businesses that can provide flexible and efficient support as well as alternatives to proprietary software might find themselves well-positioned to compete for future contracts.
