## Summary

The procurement process, initiated by the Department of Health and Social Care, involves a tender for the "Molnupiravir (EIDD-2801/MK-4482) Supply Agreement for Pandemic Purposes". This procurement falls under the pharmaceutical products category, specifically targeting goods related to COVID-19 treatment. The procurement method adopted is a limited procedure without prior publication of a call for competition, aimed at meeting extreme urgency requirements. The contract, valued at an unspecified amount due to commercial sensitivity, was signed on 13 October 2021, and the delivery location is London, UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses operating in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, particularly those with capabilities in antiviral drug supply and development. Companies that can rapidly produce and deliver pharmaceuticals, especially in response to pandemic-related demands, would be well-suited to compete. The investment in innovative solutions like Molnupiravir underscores the need for suppliers who can provide effective treatments for COVID-19 and other similar health crises.

## Notice

Vaccines have been shown to be highly effective in the fight against COVID-19, to date. However, there is a cohort of individuals who either cannot take the vaccine or for whom it is ineffective. There is therefore an urgent need to find an effective alternative. So far there are no primary care antiviral drugs that can be easily dispensed specifically to treat SARS-CoV-2 and prevent its transmission in the community. This agreement is for the procurement of 480,000 units of Molnupiravir (EIDD-2801/MK-4482). It is one of the first oral and direct-acting antiviral drugs globally and the first to receive regulatory approval and is part of the UK's multi-layered approach to COVID-19.
