## Summary

The procurement process, led by the Defra Network eTendering Portal, is for a contract titled "CEFAS21-116 ITT for the provision of an International Ecosystem Survey in the Nordic Sea". This procurement falls within the services sector, specifically classified under the CPV code for the hire of sea-going vessels with crew, and is located in the United Kingdom. The procurement method used is an open procedure, with the tender recently completed, and it involved a total contract value of £435,000. The contract is associated with an acoustic-trawl survey aimed at studying pelagic fish populations, and relevant activities have been ongoing since 1997, in collaboration with various international research institutes.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in marine services and research, particularly those capable of providing sea-going vessels equipped for scientific surveys. Companies that specialise in ship hire or have expertise in marine ecology and environmental surveys would be well-positioned to compete for similar contracts. With potential follow-on contracts available, businesses in this sector could benefit immensely from this collaboration, particularly given the ongoing requirements for such environmental research initiatives.

## Notice

This contract is for a pelagic trawler, suitably equipped to participate in an acoustic-trawl survey. The survey is part of the international IESNS (International Ecosystem Survey in the Nordic Sea), a collaboration between Icelandic, Faroe, Norwegian, EU and UK research institutes which has been conducted since 1997. The survey is carried out in order to investigate distribution and migrations of the Norwegian Spring-spawning herring, blue whiting and other pelagic fish, and to produce a biomass index for herring and a recruitment index for blue whiting. The survey will cover the southern end of the distributional range of the spring-spawning herring population. Furthermore, hydrographic conditions and plankton distribution will be estimated to investigate the influence of the environmental conditions and prey availability on the target fish species.
