## Summary

The Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy Programme for the Cambridgeshire region is a significant telecommunications services initiative, spearheaded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. This programme aims at constructing gigabit-capable broadband infrastructures in the UK’s least commercially attractive zones, labelled as the final 20%. The procurement process for this initiative has progressed to the award stage, with CityFibre Limited securing the contract. This contract, valued at approximately £77 million, commenced on 23 February 2023 and is set to complete by 30 December 2034. The procurement method used is a restricted procedure under the EU’s frameworks, focusing on long-term sustainability and wide coverage in hard-to-reach areas.

This tender presents a wealth of growth opportunities for businesses within the telecommunications domain, specifically those adept in large-scale infrastructure projects. Ideal candidates are those capable of collaborating on comprehensive network projects and contributing innovative solutions that align with government-backed sustainability goals. The initiative not only aims to improve regional technological landscapes but also sets a precedent for long-term business partnerships. Companies eager to expand through governmental partnerships in the telecommunications sector would be particularly well-suited for such projects, given the substantial funding and long contract duration.

## Notice

This procurement is for the award of a Regional Supplier Contract in the Cambridgeshire & Adj region. This is part of the Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy programme.

The Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy programme is a government programme aimed to support the build of gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure in the areas of the UK which are unlikely to attract commercial investment for gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure within a reasonable timeframe, if at all, referred to as the final 20% (f20). Building Digital UK (BDUK, part of DCMS) will be targeting its market intervention in these areas of the UK via this subsidy award programme, to subsidise the build of gigabit-capable networks providing long-term, sustainable availability of wholesale gigabit broadband services in the hardest to reach parts of the UK. The Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy programme builds on the success of existing programmes being delivered by BDUK to deliver gigabit-capable networks across the UK. It is envisaged this programme will last for up to 9 years and award contracts throughout that period.
