## Summary

The Natural History Museum, located in South Kensington, London, has recently completed a tendering process for "Energy Services at the Natural History Museum". This procurement falls under the services category, particularly focusing on energy-related services, with an intention to meet net zero carbon targets by 2035. The procurement was conducted using a selective method, specifically a restricted procedure, and aimed to find an energy partner to support operations for the next 15 years. The contract, awarded to Vital Energi Solutions Limited, involves an estimated value of £17,012,424 and was signed on 15 December 2021.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in energy services, particularly those with expertise in sustainable solutions and efficiency improvements. Companies that specialise in energy management, renewable energy technologies, or retrofitting existing energy infrastructure would be well-suited to explore similar contracts. As the Natural History Museum pursues its goal of achieving net zero carbon status, suppliers with innovative energy solutions and the ability to deliver technically advanced service proposals are likely to find a fertile market for growth within this and comparable procurement opportunities.

## Notice

The Natural History Museum wished to procure services and associated plant and equipment from an Energy Services Company for their site in South Kensington, London. The Museum aims to be net zero carbon by 2035, and this project is seen as an integral part of this target. The site has an electrical demand of approximately 22.4 GWh per year and a heat demand of approximately 19.3 GWh per year. The procurement will include the removal, addition or replacement of generation plant.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This project involves the renewal, operation and maintenance of the central energy plant and heat and cold distribution infrastructure for the Museum for the next 15 years. The Museum previously had an agreement with a supplier who operated and maintained the central CCHP plant, LTHW boiler plant and associated ancillary plant. Since the CCHP plant was installed in 2006, the carbon dioxide emissions attributed to the generation and distribution of the UK national grid supplied electricity have fallen substantially and are forecast by the government to continue to fall. The UK Government has also signed into law that the UK is to be net zero carbon by 2050. The Museum would like to achieve net zero carbon status by 2035, and this procurement is directly related to that aim. This procurement intended to find an energy partner for the Museum for the next 15 years that can help it achieve net zero carbon by 2035.
