## Summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking to procure a proton exchange membrane (PEM) or a solid oxide hydrogen electrolyser for their Green Hydrogen Production and Storage Facility, part of the Sustainable Aviation Fuels Innovation Centre (SAF-IC). This project, backed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), falls within the goods category, specifically targeting the energy industry. The procurement method is open, with the tender currently in progress, following an amendment to the submission deadline which now stands at 29 March 2022. The contract is expected to run from 1 November 2022 to 28 February 2023, with significant activities centred in Sheffield at the Sheffield Business Park.

This tender presents a robust opportunity for businesses specialising in renewable energy technologies, particularly those focused on hydrogen production and sustainable fuels. Companies involved in research and development of decarbonisation technologies, as well as those providing innovative solutions for energy efficiency and storage, would be well-positioned to compete for this contract. With a substantial budget of approximately £1.35 million allocated for this initiative, successful suppliers could also benefit from collaborative efforts to advance the hydrogen economy and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions in the sector.

## Notice

The University of Sheffield (UoS) with funding from European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is establishing a Sustainable Aviation Fuels Innovation Centre (SAF-IC) to support and promote the production and characterisation of decarbonised and sustainable aviation fuel. To broaden and support our extensive research, development, and deployment activities at the centre, we are looking to procure a proton exchange membrane (PEM) or a solid oxide hydrogen electrolyser. The Green Hydrogen Production and Storage Facility project will enable green hydrogen to be produced on site, whilst the device will be mains powered the centre boasts considerable renewable electricity production capacity. Hence, it is intended that the consumption of the H2 production facility will net off, against said production capacity, thereby resulting in credible green hydrogen production. One of the main purposes behind this procurement is the use of the generated hydrogen to produce renewable synthetic fuels.
