## Summary

The Forestry Commission, acting through Forestry England, has awarded a contract titled "Mineral Consultancy Framework" for environmental issues consultancy services, valued at £450,000. This procurement process took place across various sites within England, with a focus on developing mineral opportunities while balancing conservation and timber production objectives. The contract period runs for 1440 days, following the award completion on May 24, 2022, with key activities carried out under an open procedure method.

This framework presents significant business opportunities particularly for small or medium enterprises (SMEs) with expertise in environmental consultancy and mineral management. Companies engaged in forestry, environmental services, or those offering consultancy tailored to balancing commercial and environmental interests are well-positioned to compete for future tenders alike. The emphasis on stakeholder engagement suggests that businesses with experience in working within communities will be particularly valuable.

## Notice

CONTRACT AWARDED - Forestry England have explored and managed mineral operations on the nations forest since it was established and wish to continue to develop commercial mineral opportunities across the estate. This must be undertaken in reasonable balance with wider objectives including the production of timber and the interests of conservation and the environment. In promoting the multiple benefits of forestry, we also seek to take careful account of the needs and wishes of stakeholders, including local communities. This framework covers the whole of England. We currently have more than 40 sites in England, made up of a combination of operational sites worked by Tenants, sites worked under leasehold reservation by Landlords, sites used for landfill and 23 in house quarries. As an increasingly specialised industry, we recognise the need to procure competent professional counsel to aid us in the successful management of these sites.
