### Procurement Information

Northern Trains has an ongoing need to provide a staffed security service at its main train maintenance facilities. In addition it has an obligation to provide trained staff at 2 stations (Manchester Victoria and Manchester Oxford Road) to undertake counter-terror patrols. The contract for these services was originally awarded following a competition in 2017 and Northern is now extending this agreement until 31st March 2023. The extension of contracts is allowed where the contract is not materially different in character from the one initially concluded and this extension is for a period of 1 year. A change of contractor at this time would cause significant inconvenience and an increase in costs for Northern. The Service was subject to a recent competitive tender which resulted in a failed procurement due to a significant change in requirement not foreseen at the start of the process. Service provision beyond the end of this contract extension will be subject to competition.
