## Summary

The procurement process for the Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy Programme in Norfolk, initiated by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), aims to subsidise the development of gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure in the UK regions unlikely to receive commercial investment. This programme is categorised under telecommunications services and spans a contract period from June 2023 to September 2035. The procurement stage has progressed to the contract award and update phase, with CityFibre Limited as the supplier. The tender, valued at £61.9 million, involves implementing a government programme to support the construction of broadband infrastructure catering to areas recognised as the final 20% in terms of reachability. The regional supplier contract is projected to endure up to nine years, marking its initiation on 23rd June 2023.

For businesses in telecommunications services, this project offers a unique opportunity for growth by engaging in building sustainable broadband networks. Companies with substantial experience in large-scale infrastructure projects, especially those versed in deploying gigabit networks, stand to benefit significantly. As the initiative focuses on the harder-to-reach areas of the UK, participating organisations could play a critical role in enhancing digital accessibility while tapping into government-subsidised projects. This contract not only offers economic prospects through its long-term duration and substantial funding but also allows businesses to expand their service portfolios and solidify their presence in under-served regions.

## Notice

This procurement is for the award of a Regional Supplier Contract in the Norfolk region. This is part of the Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy programme.

The Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy programme is a government programme aimed to support the build of gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure in the areas of the UK which are unlikely to attract commercial investment for gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure within a reasonable timeframe, if at all, referred to as the final 20% (f20). Building Digital UK (BDUK, part of DCMS) will be targeting its market intervention in these areas of the UK via this subsidy award programme, to subsidise the build of gigabit-capable networks providing long-term, sustainable availability of wholesale gigabit broadband services in the hardest to reach parts of the UK. The Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy programme builds on the success of existing programmes being delivered by BDUK to deliver gigabit-capable networks across the UK. It is envisaged this programme will last for up to 9 years and award contracts throughout that period.
