## Summary

The West Midlands Combined Authority is planning the procurement process for the "West Midlands Metro Lifecycle Programme of Works," focusing on railway construction works. This project is particularly relevant to the transport and infrastructure industry and is set to be executed over the next four years. A market engagement event is scheduled for 13th July 2022 at 85 Holyhead Road, Wednesbury, where organisations are required to register by 8th July 2022. The procurement process aims to determine the best route to market following this event.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in design, construction, and engineering consultancy within the railway sector. Companies specialising in overhead lines, track maintenance, civil engineering, signalling systems, and related consultancy services would be especially well-suited to compete for these contracts. Engaging in this procurement could lead to sustained projects and collaborations, thereby fostering growth in a thriving transportation network servicing significant UK regions, including Wolverhampton, Birmingham, and beyond.

### Lot Information

Overhead Lines

Over the four-year period MML are looking to carry out resilience works to the overhead line with redesign and works to be undertaken, with the aim to decrease the weight of the system and correct known issues.

Track

Four-year rail replacement plan on the system at various locations along the route due to wear to ensure track is kept within maintenance limits. Lifting and packing to be undertaken across line one at known locations with a view to carry out a maintenance tamp across the system from Saint Chads to Priestfield along the off street section in stages.

Civils & Structural

Midland Metro are responsible for various structures along the route from retaining walls to under bridges, routine general and principal inspections of these structures has indicated the need for remedial works to keep them within the structures condition index rating, works include re-painting of the older adopted under bridges over this period.

Signalling control systems and communication

Obsolescence issues are a driving factor to be addressed over the life of Midland Metro with signalling and communication and control systems in need of upgrade or replacement. We are also looking to create a smarter way of maintaining, this would be aided by the design and installation of an engineering auxiliary SCADA to enable remote monitoring of site equipment.

Design/ consultancy

As part of the major projects there will be a need for comprehensive design and consultancy to cover system design and best practise going forward with review of maintenance.
