High power Radio Frequency tubes (valves) used in the ISIS Linear Accelerator are considered consumable items because their expected lifetimes are limited, often of the order of 10,000 hours or less (Approximately 2 years scheduled running). It should be noted that these tubes have for many years only been available to UKRI through a single source.
