## Summary

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is planning a procurement process for the "Energy System Digital Spine Scoping Study". This study aims to assess the technical feasibility and policy implications of the energy system 'digital spine' concept. BEIS is seeking suppliers to conduct a six-month discovery study as part of the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio's Flexibility Innovation Programme. A supplier engagement event is scheduled for 8th September 13:00 – 14:00. The study includes stakeholder engagement, security and operability implications, user journeys, and cost analysis.

This tender by BEIS provides opportunities for businesses in the energy and related services industry. Companies with expertise in digital infrastructure, energy systems, data exchange, and stakeholder engagement would be well-suited to compete. Interested businesses should consider participating in the supplier engagement event to learn more about the scope and requirements of the study. The planned procurement stage allows potential suppliers to prepare their bids and engage with BEIS to showcase their capabilities in delivering innovative solutions for the energy sector.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

BEIS will procure a six-month discovery study assessing technical feasibility and policy implications of the energy system 'digital spine' concept, as proposed in the Energy Digitalisation Taskforce report. An energy system digital spine is a proposed piece of digital infrastructure to connect energy system participants, enabling them to exchange data simply and securely. A common industry-wide digital spine solution could deliver the efficiencies of an interoperable, digital energy system, but the definition, scope, potential delivery options and overarching governance requirements are uncertain and wide-ranging. This study will include definition/scope options analysis, stakeholder engagement, security and operability implications, user journeys, and costs. This work sits within the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio's PS65m Flexibility Innovation Programme, which enables large-scale widespread electricity system flexibility through smart, flexible, secure, and accessible technologies and markets. BEIS is holding a supplier engagement event on 8th September 13:00 - 14:00 for this opportunity, please use the link below to register for this event: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/energy-system-digital-spine-scoping-study-information-event-tickets-404052049557 Energy Digitalisation Taskforce report - https://es.catapult.org.uk/news/energy-digitalisation-taskforce-publishes-recommendations-for-a-digitalised-net-zero-energy-system/ PS65m Flexibility Innovation Programme - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/flexibility-innovation
