## Summary

The NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board has recently awarded a contract to Keech Hospice Care for the provision of an Inpatient Unit for Children and Young People, including a Community Support Service for CYP. The contract, valued at £441,619, started on 1st April 2023 and can be extended for an additional 12 months, concluding on 31st March 2025. The contracting process involved a Voluntary Ex-Ante Transparency Notice (VEAT) published on 17th March 2023 to inform the market of the contract award. The service focuses on specialist palliative care for children and young people, providing support both within the hospice and the community.

This procurement process presents opportunities for businesses in the health services sector, particularly those with expertise in providing specialist palliative care for children and young people. The contract method used was a limited tender, with an award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition. The service provided by Keech Hospice is considered highly specialist, catering to the specific needs of children and young people in the region. The authorities highlighted the importance of the service's location to ensure adequate support for the target beneficiaries. Businesses looking to compete should focus on delivering high-quality, specialised services that align with the unique requirements of this public procurement contract.
