## Summary

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has awarded a contract for the provision of Technical Support in the Assessment of Radiation Fields at the Perimeter of Selected Nuclear Licensed Sites. This service falls under the services category, and the procurement method used was a limited procedure without prior publication of a call for competition. The award was made via a single tender negotiation with the supplier UKHSA. The contract is valued at £116,640 and was signed on 31st March 2023.

This contract opportunity can benefit businesses that have expertise in technical support services related to radiation fields at nuclear sites. ONR selected the supplier UKHSA based on their unique expertise and independence. Businesses with experience in gamma and neutron background categorisation, environmental measurements, data analysis, and radiation exposure estimation may find this tender suitable for growth opportunities. For those interested, further details can be found on the ONR website.

## Notice

There is an obligation on ONR to provide regulatory assurance on the management by licensees of radiation fields at their site fences. This requires ONR to establish independent confirmation of these radiation fields. The contractor must be able to apply suitable and sufficient expertise in the following areas: i) Categorisation of gamma and neutron background; ii) Instrumentation and the making of environmental measurements of ambient gamma and neutron radiation levels; iii) Analysis of these measurements to provide estimates of exposures to the representative persons, in terms of direct exposure only; iv) Analysis of data (mostly TLD measurements) made by licensee and estimation of direct exposures to the representative persons on the basis of these.
