## Summary

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) is overseeing a significant procurement under the Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy Programme, which involves awarding a Regional Supplier Contract for South Yorkshire. The industry category is telecommunications services, targeting the building and operation of gigabit-capable broadband networks to serve approximately 32,416 premises. The contract falls under the services category and is part of a broader government effort to extend broadband infrastructure to the least commercially viable areas of the UK, referred to as the final 20%. The procurement process is structured to adhere to UK subsidy control regulations and follows a selective tendering method. It officially commenced on 7th March 2024 and will conclude on 30th April 2034. The contract is divided into three stages: design, build, and monitor, with a total public funding of £44,400,000 allocated for this undertaking.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses, especially for those involved in telecommunications infrastructure and services. Companies that provide services related to the design, build, and maintenance of telecommunications networks are well-suited to compete for this contract. The project requires a scalable solution to deliver high-quality, sustainable broadband services, creating potential growth prospects for suppliers capable of meeting the high standards expected under the contract criteria. The programme’s focus on areas that are not commercially viable for market intervention ensures that successful bidders will be at the forefront of expanding digital connectivity in critical areas, thereby enhancing their business portfolio and reputation within the telecommunications sector.

## Notice

This procurement is for the award of a Regional Supplier Contract in the South Yorkshire region. This is part of the Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy programme.

The Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy programme is a government programme aimed to support the build of gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure in the areas of the UK which are unlikely to attract commercial investment for gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure within a reasonable timeframe, if at all, referred to as the final 20% (f20). Building Digital UK (BDUK, part of DCMS) will be targeting its market intervention in these areas of the UK via this subsidy award programme, to subsidise the build of gigabit-capable networks providing long-term, sustainable availability of wholesale gigabit broadband services in the hardest to reach parts of the UK. The Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy programme builds on the success of existing programmes being delivered by BDUK to deliver gigabit-capable networks across the UK. It is envisaged this programme will last for up to 9 years and award contracts throughout that period.

This procurement is for delivery of a gigabit-capable network in South Yorkshire which is aimed at covering approximately 32,416 premises.
