## Summary

The NHS Sussex Integrated Care Board (ICB) has announced the award and procurement of a new Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) to commence on 1st April 2025. This service covers West Sussex, Brighton & Hove, and East Sussex, focusing on providing safe and timely transport for patients with medical needs. The procurement, which is currently at the Award stage with a contract signed on 26th July 2024, details a service expected to adapt to fluctuating regional demands post-pandemic. The contract, valued at £230 million over a potential maximum of 10 years (5+5 extension), follows the open procedure under EU procurement regulations, with a procurement process managed by the NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit (SCW).

This tender provides substantial opportunities for businesses in the medical transport and related services sector. Companies such as ERS Transition (trading as EMED Group Ltd) have already been awarded parts of the contract. There's an allowance for joint bids, partnerships, and subcontracting, encouraging participation from SMEs and VCSEs. With a significant financial envelope and an emphasis on flexibility, business resilience, and sustainability, the procurement is highly suited for businesses with robust operational capabilities, innovative service delivery, and strong digital and communication infrastructures. The deadline for tenders was 4th September 2023, and the high-quality service standards required will likely foster further competitive opportunities for eligible providers.
