## Summary

The UK Research & Innovation has initiated a tender for the UKRI-3259 NQCC Strontium Ion Laser Suite. The procurement falls under the goods category and is aimed at providing laser systems for the National Quantum Computing Centre's hardware development. The tender, in its active status, has a total contract value of £800,000 GBP. The procurement method is an open procedure with the main focus on quality (60%) and price (40%) criteria. The contracting authority is seeking two laser suites to be delivered within a 9-month period from the order placement date. The awarded supplier for Lot 1 is TOPTICA Photonics AG.

This procurement opportunity for the strontium ion laser systems by UK Research & Innovation presents a growth avenue for businesses operating in the laser technology and machining sector. SMEs with expertise in laser technology and machine tools would find this tender suitable for business expansion. The successful bidder will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge quantum computing hardware development at the NQCC. The active status of the tender indicates ongoing competitiveness among potential suppliers aiming to provide the required laser systems tailored for strontium hardware platforms.

## Notice

Part of the National Quantum Computing Centre's core strategy is the design an development of quantum computing hardware. One of the hardware platforms we are developing is based on trapped ions. In ion trap quantum computing, multiple lasers are required to interact with the internal states of a single and multiple ions. Strontium is one of the most widely employed atomic species in trapped ion experiments. To this end, the NQCC requires two laser suites to provide the laser light required for strontium hardware platforms.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This procurement is for two lots of strontium ion laser systems to be delivered to the NQCC. Each system must be a rack containing 8 lasers along with all control and frequency locking electronics - requirement for each laser are listed in Section 5. All cabling (including power, networking, and control) should be included in the rack. This agreement will be in place for a period of 9 months from when the order is placed.
