## Summary

Leicestershire County Council recently completed the tender process for the "Ashby Canal Reed Bed Restoration and Bore Hole Pump Replacement" project in the construction work for water projects category. The project aimed to restore the reed bed and replace the bore hole pump at the Council-owned Donisthorpe Woodland Park. The tender, initiated as an open procedure, resulted in contracts being awarded to King Industries Ltd for both restoration and pump replacement. The total contract value was £342,000 with a completion date of 21st February 2024.

This procurement opportunity by Leicestershire County Council offers business growth prospects for companies involved in construction work for water projects and pump maintenance services. Businesses specialising in water project construction, pumps, and maintenance services are well-suited to compete for the restoration and pump replacement lots. The tender process included evaluation criteria based on quality and price, providing opportunities for suppliers offering high-quality services at competitive prices to secure contracts. Interested businesses should consider the open procedure and the specific project requirements outlined by the Council to tailor their bids effectively.

## Notice

Leicestershire County Council (LCC) operate a pump and reed bed to replenish the Ashby canal during dry weather conditions. Water is pumped from old mine workings to the reed bed where it is cleansed before entering the canal via a pipe. The reed bed is located in the Council owned Donisthorpe Woodland Park. Water has been filtered using a reed bed comprised of gravel weirs, gabions, a lagoon, and reeds. Over time the reed bed has become blinded with ochre, vegetation build-up, and reed encroachment into the lagoon. The reed bed requires restoration. Furthermore, the existing bentomat liner is reaching the end of its life expectancy and so LCC would like to take the opportunity to replace it. The bore hole pump requires replacement to meet the water input requirements of the reed bed. The headworks, stilling chamber containing the water level meter and the control equipment for the pump require, replacement / refurbishment or updating.
