No other reasonable alternative exists for this procurement that is critical for patient care and service delivery. This procurement is essential in supporting the long-term/optimum graft survival of renal transplant patients. A tender process that was delayed due to Covid19 commenced in September 2021, tender reference 3786726 and is currently at evaluation stage. This procurement is required in the interim period until this tender process has completed. A replacement in the short-term is not a reasonable alternative as it would require extensive and robust validation and verification work in line with laboratory accreditation standards - UKAS ISO15189 that would result in significant disruption and disproportionate technical difficulties that would significantly impact on patient safety and the Trusts ability to deliver services. The absence of competition is not a result of the artificial narrowing of the parameters of the procurement. The wider market has been consulted as part of the tender that is in progress HLA Typing & Antibody Ref: 3786726. BHSCT will exit this procurement and transition to the new contract at the earliest opportunity.
